The Bookcase is now open – a new bookcase for foreign-language literature on Europaplatz. There is a new offering in Bruchsal for the international community. On Europaplatz, Mayor Cornelia Petzold-Schick inaugurated the new public bookcase for foreign-language literature.

Many members of the Friends of Bruchsal’s twin towns Cwmbrân, Gornja Radgona, Ste. Marie-aux-Mines, Ste. Ménehould and Volterra, as well as several local councillors and youth councillor Jakob Diehl, gathered at Europaplatz in glorious weather to celebrate the successful conversion of the English telephone box and to place the first books in English, Italian and French inside.
The “Red Telephone Box” was a gift from Cwmbrân to the city of Bruchsal in 1985. It was initially located at the city library until the telephone box was relocated to Europaplatz in 2009.
In 2022, Telekom disconnected the telephone installed in it, and since then the distinctive telephone box has stood empty. Of course, the new bookcase – the new home for foreign-language books – is not intended to be reserved solely for the languages of Bruchsal’s twin towns. Bruchsal is a city where people from many different nations live and many languages are spoken.
Accordingly, books in a wide variety of languages should also find a temporary new home in the bookcase, even if only temporarily. Because everyone is welcome to come by and take books with them and also add new ones!
